I had the honor of taking family portraits in Kansas City, MO at the Liberty Memorial / National WWI Museum. The Liberty Memorial is very well designed and a beautiful, but somber, reminder for those who gave their all in the defense of others in World War I. I have toured this memorial extensively, and it is hard not to cry at all that was lost, from so many different nations. The scenery is amazing year round, and it is a favorite among local photographers.

It was a super hot, full sun day, in the early afternoon. Not a cloud in the sky! I arrived early and did my usual scouting of the scene, taking some test shots. When my clients arrived, I ran some ideas by them. For the sake of being “cool”, and getting the best photos with a little guy, we opted to do the session under the cover of the beautiful trees in front of the memorial. Thankfully, there is plenty to see there, and a lot of great architecture!

I have known Dad for several years. So, it was an absolute blessing to me that they chose me to take photos of their beautiful family. Mom knew exactly what she wanted, and we got everything and more. One of my all-time favorite subjects to photograph are little kids. This little man definitely did not disappoint! Sure, we had some “moments of sadness”, but he was a good sport most of the session. We had both sets of grandparents and an aunt involved, too.
